Instructor: Mary Mangan
Course Description: The Wikipedia pages for lace are important resources, but the quality and quantity of information can vary widely. The lace community has great depth, and can provide knowledge, images, and references that would enhance discovery for researchers, and connect people new to lace to our organizations, our authors, and active lacemaking today. With a few simple starting points and foundations about editing this public and free encyclopedia, you will learn how to edit pages and add references. We will show you how to upload images to supplement pages and share your knowledge and love of lace with the world. If you support your local guild with social media or newsletter content, we can also show you how to use the wealth of existing images from Wikimedia Commons for your work.
Session 1: Overview of the project, the problems, the remedies, and the opportunities. Mary will do some sample edits and we will provide links to some initial training videos and a list of pages or items that need work
During the following few weeks people can look at their favorite lace pages and think about edits they would like to do. Mary can provide suggested pages as well. There might also be some one-on-one or small group sessions (at various times of the week) to try things out.
Session 2: An ""Edit-a-thon"" where we can make suggested edits and help each other with actual editing.
During the following month we can also have some small group sessions to edit or resolve issues, scheduled in people's preferred times.
